The Maldives national football club lost to Reunion Island team, in their first match in the 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG).
Maldives lost the match four to nil.
While both teams came out strong in the first half of the match held at the Auguste Vollaire Stadium in Central Flacq city, the Reunion team took the lead in the 31st minute. Their second goal came just two minutes later.
Maldives got two opportunities to narrow the lead in the first hald, but failed to do so.
The Reunion Island team came out with strong attacks from the beginning of the second half. While it had multiple opportunities to increase the lead, they scored the third goal in the 63rd minute following a mistake by the Maldives goalkeeper.
The team continued to attack the Maldives side’s goal throughout the second half, and ultimately scored their fourth goal at the 68th minute.
The Maldives team failed to take the many chances to score, showing a weak game in the second half.
Maldives team’s second match will be against Comoros, on Saturday.
