Following the landslides and floods in different regions of Nepal that took the lives of many, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended condolences to the Prime Minister of Nepal, K.P. Sharma Oli and wished success in their recovery efforts.

In his message, Solih expressed grief in learning about the devastating floods and landslides that occurred within the past three days due to the proceeding monsoon season in the country.

While the floods occurred due to heavy showers across several regions, the disaster took several lives and injured more, also having wreaked damage to property and infrastructure.

The President extended heartfelt sympathies from the people and government of Maldives to those bereaved and suffering in Nepal.

“I wish every success to the rescue and recovery efforts of those who are directly affected by this tragedy. Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.”
President Solih.

International media reports that at least 43 people were killed after the torrential rains began on Thursday. Sources report several people missing, and over 10 injured. More than a million people have reportedly been affected, with 24 missing. The meteorological department of the country has forecast the torrential weather to prevail, and thus has urged the citizens to move to safer regions.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid also extended his condolences to his counterpart in Nepal following the devastating news.
