President's Office opens up applications for two vacant seats at Broadcom

Deadline for submitting applications is 2pm, on July 16

The President’s Office has opened up the opportunity to apply for the two vacant seats at the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom).

Deadline for submitting applications is 2pm, on July 16.

Interested parties can download the membership application from the presidency website.

The two seats have been vacant since the resignation of member Ahmed Sofwan and Hassan Nabaah, in June.

Sofwan was the commission vice president until his resignation from the post in June.

He resigned from the commission later in the month, after the parliament’s committee independent institutions- investigating the various allegations against Broadcom -passed to removed him from Broadcom.

The decision to remove Sofwan was reached after studying his attendance report, which was provided by Broadcom after being summoned to the committee on June 19. He had been out of work for over seven months, but taking full salary.

Broadcom member Nabaah handed his resignation letter in late June, after the parliament committee’s meeting with the commission members.

While he did not give a specific reason for resigning, Nabaah said that “it is the best thing to do given the current situation.”

The committee on independent institutions is also deliberating on a motion to remove all members of the broadcasting commission, with a four-member sub committee was formed to further examine the case.
