Traffic police have begun an operation following an increase in illegal acts and traffic violations while operating vehicles on the streets.

This was revealed by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Twitter. The tweet reads that they have received reports of unlawful acts such as smoking and even using phones while operating a vehicle.

During the operation, officers will be taking legal action against traffic violations as well as illegal acts such as smoking.

This comes at a time traffic police through its weekly statistics revealed that over 1,300 parking stickers were given during the previous week.
