The government has decided to lease land for the development of local tourism in Vaadhoo island, Gaaf Dhaal atoll.
The Ministry of Tourism released a statement on Monday which states that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has allocated 16 plots of land measuring 5,000 square feet in Vaadhoo island under the Tourism Act.
It also states that the Ministry will officially begin the bidding process once thorough discussions are held with relevant institutions and the island council about how the procedure will be carried out.
Developing local tourism nationwide is one of President Solih’s pledges to the people, with the government carrying out a lot of work to promote local tourism in all regions of the country.
Expanding local tourism in inaccessible areas is a priority for the government which is now working for the development and progress of the industry across northern and southern atolls.
