Parliament accepts motion to dismiss Magistrate Rasheed

JSC voted to dismiss him on June 12

The motion was submitted to parliament by JSC

A motion to remove GDh. Thinadhoo court Magistrate Ibrahim Rasheed has been accepted by parliament and forwarded to its judiciary committee.

The motion was submitted to parliament by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), who on June 12 voted to remove him over a misconduct issue.

North-Hithadhoo constituency MP Mohamed Aslam had proposed an amendment to the motion, to seek further details in the case from JSC. Vilufushi constituency MP Hassan Afeef seconded Aslam’s amendment.

All 73 members present at Tuesday’s parliament unanimously voted to accept the motion, with the said amendment.

Due to an issue with the voting system, a yes or no vote was taken with the MPs standing up.

While this is the first time a motion has been submitted to dismiss a judge, it can only be done after two thirds of the present MPs votes for it.
