Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has sent a letter to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), seeking verdicts in three motions passed by the People’s Majlis regarding the Supreme Court.

Secretary General at the People’s Majlis, Fathmath Niusha revealed that the motions were forwarded regarding the recent rulings issued by the Supreme Court.

The ruling in question, was the one nullifying all decisions made against Supreme Court rulings by government institutions, including the parliament and was made a few days back, following JSC’s suspension of Justice Abdulla Didi.

At Wednesday’s sitting, the parliament had passed that the Supreme Court’s order is “unconstitutional”.

The three motions submitted at the parliament sitting on Wednesday were by Central-Henveiru constituency MP Ali Azim and all three were passed the same day.

The first motion sought to check whether all Supreme Court justices are qualified to preside the bench which was passed with the votes of 66 members. The second motion seeks investigations into the Supreme Court order suppressing parliament authority which was passed with 69 votes. The third one seeks investigations from the JSC to see if any of the Supreme Court justices are implicated in corruption which was passed with the voted of 69 members as well.
