Moosa Nashid has been elected as the secretary general of Badminton Asia, at the confederation’s Annual General Meeting on Saturday.
The Maldives Badminton Association’s president won against China’s sports federation and Olympic committee leader.
Moosa received 27 votes, while his opponent won just 13.
This is the highest post a Maldivian has been elected to, in the international sports arena.
Badminton Asia is the governing body of the badminton sport in Asia under the flagship of Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Indonesia’s Anton Aditya Subowo was re-elected the president of the organization at the meeting.
In addition, seven vice presidents were elected to Badminton Asia on Friday. They are; Wang Wei (China), Kim Jong Soo (Korea), Tirta Juwana Darmadji (Indonesia), Chang Kuo-Tso (Chinese Taipei), Ali Almarri (Kuwait), Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma (India) and Dr Sawsan Haji Mohammad Taqawi (Bahrain).
