The Elections Commission (EC) has decided to release funds to all parties that had provided audit reports prior to the given deadline.

While political parties’ that have over 10,000 members are eligible, there are four parties with the required number of members. They are, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Jumhooree Party (JP) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).

However, EC has decided to release the funds to MDP, JP and MDA.

While PPM submitted its report after the given deadline, the party has been asked to resubmit it after some adjustments.

The government has allocated a total of MVR 25.6 million out of the MVR 29.6 billion state fund as the budget of political parties for 2019.
