The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has revealed that the people have complaints regarding the country's judicial system.
Chancellor at the Maldives Judicial Academy, Ahmed Majid stated that it is not clear whether the people have full trust in the judiciary or not. However, he noted that they have received many complaints about it.
In a press conference earlier this year, DJA had asserted that the people have full trust in the judicial system of the country.
The Supreme Court had on Wednesday unveiled a roadmap for judicial reform.
Their roadmap proposes that the Judicial Service Commission be re-established after making changes to law, highlighting this as a high priority to guaranteeing the independence of the judiciary. The roadmap also proposes new laws and amendments to introduce the necessary regulations currently absent in the Maldives judiciary.
DJA revealed that the roadmap also includes immediate reform plans that may be implemented soon.
The roadmap in question proposes for power for the judiciary. The unveiling ceremony was joined by Parliament Speaker Qasim Ibrahim, Defense Minister Mariya Didi as well as Home Minister Imran Abdulla.
