Kendhoo councilors brief President on development needs

Clean water and sanitation services required

Members of the Kendhoo island council have on Thursday briefed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on the council’s development plans for the island community.

During a meeting held at the President’s Office, President Solih and councilors of Kendhoo island, Baa atoll, discussed the vital requirements of the island community as well as the future plans for the economic progress of the island.

Highlighting that the women of the island need to be provided more ways to earn income, the councilors also stressed that the island needs a mosque and a modern recreational field for the youth community.

Further, councilors requested for an urgent solution to the lack of space in Kendhoo school and the lack of land and challenges surfacing for the local fishermen due to the lack of proper mechanism to sell their daily catch.

President Solih was also briefed on the community’s requirement to establish clean water and sanitation services in the island and problems faced due to soil erosion.

Having listened to their concerns, President Solih assured that his government will take necessary action to establish a solution to the issues at hand, after holding relevant discussions with the line of ministries.

The President had earlier assured the people that no island will be left out of the government’s development plan for his five-year term in office.
