State Electric Company (STELCO) has warned of possible power outages in capital city Malé’s suburban extension Hulhumale' as the company is testing its new power plant.
A statement released by the company on Tuesday reads that they are testing out the new power plant established in Hulhumale' under the Fifth Power Project. As such, they are commissioning the new generators and conducting reliability tests.
STELCO warned of possible power cuts while the work is being carried out. However, they are working to carry out the procedure in a way that ensures power is restored as soon as possible, the company revealed.
Once the project is completed, a permanent fix will be brought to the power outages, they further said.
The initiative is being carried out by China’s Dongfang Electric International Corporation jointly with STELCO.
Once completed, the power plant will be capable of generating power to the capital city, Hulhumale' as well as Hulhule'.
The project is being carried out for USD 79 million, RaajjeMV has learnt.
