Victory Sports Club has submitted a petition with signatures from 19 clubs, to hold an extraordinary congress.
The purpose of the petition is to take a vote of no-confidence against the leadership of Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
The petition was submitted by Victory’s chairman Dr. Ibrahim Nashid and vice chairman Mauroof Ahmed, who said that they did it in defense of New Radiant after their suspension.
FAM has scheduled a normal congress on March 24.
According to regulations, if a petition is submitted with signatures from 50% of the clubs which are eligible to vote, an extraordinary congress needs to be held within 15 days.
The club’s concerns include the cancellation of the FA Cup and the President’s Cup last season, and scheduling this year’s season for June.
They are also disappointed that Maldivian clubs were unable to get a spot in the AFC Cup due to FAM’s negligence.
The petition details that FAM has failed to properly organize tournaments, appointed committee executive against regulations, and is using the association’s building for political activities.
