Feeali Council has revealed that school sessions have been temporarily halted following the recent outbreak of dengue fever in the island.

Moosa Ahmed, Deputy Chief of the island council revealed that school sessions had been halted from Sunday, for a period of five days.

Ahmed revealed that one more child had been taken to the island’s health center for fever, however, the child’s test results are yet to come in.

On Saturday, two more children, aged three and four were reported to have turned positive to dengue, making the total number of children who turned positive to dengue 11.

The island council revealed on Saturday that one of the children who had turned positive to dengue fever is to be sent abroad for further treatment.

The island council stated that the fever had spread as they had been negligent in taking adequate measures to reduce the risk of the disease spreading in the island. However, RaajjeMV understands that the island council along with its residents have now begun work to take preventive measures.

As such, they have inspected road junctions near the residences of the children who have been diagnosed. Upon inspection, they had found that the junctions were in need of renovation.

In addition, island residents are also suffering from diarrhea, revealed the island council. A team of doctors has since arrived in the island to assist.

Residents and the council of Feeali, with a population of about 1,240, have begun eliminating mosquito infestations by using insecticide for the past four days.
