Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has revealed that they have begun planting the Coastal Radar Surveillance System (CSRR) from India in the Maldives.

Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal told India’s Strategic News International that they have begun the process of planting the system and that peace and security of the Indian Ocean has remained a top priority to the government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and that it is something proven to be of equal importance to both countries.

Shamaal said that the system is necessary to protect the Maldives Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and to stop the trafficking of narcotics and other contraband being imported.

Further, he went on to reveal that discussions on the installation of the system began 10 years back.

The governments of Maldives and India are to install 10 radar system at the moment.

The neighboring country is also negotiating to install the systems in Bangladesh, Myanmar and Indonesia as well.
