Will not stand in the way of medical rights of convicts: Minister Imran
Nashwa called on Imran to let her husband do a doctor prescribed biopsy, away from Minister Imran’s influence
Minister assured that he will provide all assistance in providing the adequate medical treatment

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated that he will not stand in the way of medical treatment guaranteed to a prison convict.

He said this via a tweet on Monday in response to a tweet posted by Mariyam Nashwa, wife of former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.

Nashwa in her tweet called on Minister Imran to let her husband do a doctor prescribed biopsy, away from Minister Imran’s “influence”.

Further, Nashwa stressed that Adeeb’s brother had died due to cancer, highlighting that Adeeb has developed a cyst in the same place as his brother. She had previously expressed her concern regarding the matter on various occasions as well.

Mohamed Naseem, Adeeb’s brother, had succumbed to cancer in 2008 according to the family.

Minister Imran was quick to respond, saying that he does not wish to stand in the way of medical rights of not only the former vice president, but any prisoner.

The recently appointed Minister further assured that he will provide all assistance in providing the adequate medical treatment required by convicts.

Adeeb is serving a prison sentence totaling 33 years following multiple charges including having a hand in an assassination attempt against former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom during his term as Vice President.
