Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has met with some senior political figures of the government of United Kingdom.
As part of his current visit to London, Minister Shahid met with ruling Conservative Party’s Vice Chairperson and Member of Parliament Helen Grant.
Following the meeting, Grant revealed via twitter that they discussed the opportunities for trade and cooperation between the governments of UK and Maldives.

Ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and UK’s Conservative Party have held close relations over the years.
The Foreign Minister also met with George Hollingbery, MP and Minister of State for Trade Policy at the Department for International Trade.
A tweet by Minister Shahid reveals that they discussed potential areas of trade cooperation between the governments of both countries.

The Maldives Minister also met MP and Chair of All-Party Parliamentary Group David Amess, as well as MP and former Foreign Office Minister, Hugo Swire.
Thanking MP Swire for his continued support, Minister Shahid said that he had briefed him on the democratic change and current policies in the Maldives.
In a tweet following the meeting, Swire had expressed his hope that Maldives will be re-admitted to the Commonwealth family, “where they rightly belong”, as soon as possible.
