The future years will witness strengthened cooperation on issues of mutual importance between Maldives and Cuba, says Non-Resident Ambassador of Cuba to the Maldives, Juana Elena Ramos Rodríguez.

The Cuban Ambassador said this during a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday afternoon at the President’s Office.

The President’s Office reported that the President had stressed on the dangers emanating from climate change that the Maldives and Cuba both face, including other challenges.

Expressing his “sincere gratitude” for the Cuban government’s assistance to the Maldives in the health sector, President Solih expressed enthusiasm in increasing trade as well as investment between both governments.

Some of the areas of interest include enhancing development collaboration as well as enhancing scholarships opportunities for Maldivian students for higher education in Cuban institutes.

Ambassador Ramos had also paid a courtesy call on Vice President Faisal Naseem, where both discussed on enhancing collaboration in areas such as tourism and health as well as climate change.

The Cuban Ambassador assured the Vice President of her continuous support to the Maldives, noting that helping Cuba’s bilateral friends is a crucial part of Cuban international relations.
