Former Real Madrid and Spain defender, Michel Salgado has arrived in the Maldives on Tuesday.

Salgado will be a special guest at the Maldives Football Awards 2018, to be held on December 28, along with former Manchester United keeper Peter Schmeichel.

The pair will also play against goal keeper Imran Mohamed's XI in the match to mark his retirement from the national team, on December 30.

While the Real Madrid legend arrived in the Maldives on Tuesday morning, he was welcomed by the secretary general of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), Hussain Jawaaz and Maldivesfootball.com's founder Shimaz Ali.

Schmeichel is expected to arrive in the Maldives on December 27.

Imran Mohamed, who had been the first-choice national goal keeper since 2000, is the country's best and most decorated goalkeeper.

His team, for the international retirement match, mostly comprises of players who had played with him during his career.
