Indian warship INS Rana has on Sunday entered the Maldivian waters for a surveillance operation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
RaajjeMV understands that the naval ship is to conduct a joint surveillance of the EEZ with Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF)’s Coastguard.
INS Rana will be in the Maldives till the 14th of December and is part of the serial patrol and surveillance operations being conducted by officers of the Indian Military. These surveillances are carried out to ensure no illegal procedures are carried out in the zone, and will overall improve the security in the region.
An Indian worship, INS Sumedha, was last in Maldives in May this year where officers conducted the surveillance operation for the first time.
This comes at a time soured relations between Maldives and India have begun improving following the inauguration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in November, which was attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed confidence in the renewal of close bonds of cooperation and friendship with the new government.
