Heavy rain showers that poured for over two hours straight on Wednesday left the capital city with the worst flooding the capital has seen in recent history. The hours-long rain showers caused 149 millimeters of floods, some up to knee level, preventing citizens from travelling on foot, incurring major damages to vehicles and had also entered a few households.
While the Maldives National Defense Force had dispatched its officers to several points throughout the city to help drain the storm water, the capital had remained flooded throughout the entirety of Wednesday and later that night as well.
RaajjeMV also understands that residents of two households that were affected by Wednesday’s downpour have been given temporary shelter at a Guest House.
On Wednesday night, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Vice President Faisal Naseem and Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi had assessed the operations carried out by the defense force for flooding relief.
