Prominent lawyer Shameem appointed to the National Sports Council

Shameem served top posts such as Deputy Prosecutor General

Prominent lawyer Hussain Shameem has been appointed to the National Sports Council on Monday.

The appointment was announced by Minister of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof on Twitter.

Minister Mahloof appointed Shameem, who previously served in top government positions such as Deputy Prosecutor General, to the seat allocated for a lawyer at the council.

Including Shameem, the council comprises of 11 members.

As such, the council comprises of two individuals appointed by the Ministry of Sports, two female members appointed by the Minister, a lawyer appointed by the Minister, a member appointed to represent the Ministry of Education, two members to represent national Olympics, two members to represent non-Olympic games and finally a member representing the Maldives Olympic Committee.

The National Sports Council manages matters related to the sports associations in the country as well as promoting Maldivian athletes and the field overall.

The President of the council is Ibrahim Ismail, who has served in the field for many years.
