While both leaders met on Monday morning, ever since the inauguration of President Solih on the 17th of November, hopes have rejuvenated that the soured ties between Maldives and India will revive.
As such, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had paid his first visit to the Maldives since assuming office in 2014, to attend President Solih’s inauguration. This was after having rejected several invitations for a state visit during former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration.
President Solih is also scheduled to depart on his first state trip, which will be to India, on the 17th of December.
