Thoriq, who has made notable contributions to Dhivehi literature, was appointed as state minister on Thursday, making him the second highest ranking official at the heritage ministry.

On his first day in office on Sunday, Thoriq along with other ministry officials visited Friday Mosque and the tomb of Muhammad Thakurufaanu. Thoriq was also accompanied by Mohamed Shathir, Director General of National Archives.

After his tour, Thoriq told RaajjeMV that the heritage ministry’s highest priority is the tomb of Muhammad Thakurfaanu, which has deteriorated significantly. He highlighted that the site marks the legacy of a national hero.

Regarding the Friday mosque, Thoriq said that metal pipes and plywood panels have been installed at the historical site, which makes it lose its unique identity.

Thoriq also said that the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has vowed to give his full support in preserving the historical landmarks.
