North-Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam has been appointed as leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Parliamentary Group.
In the press release on Thursday, MDP stated that it has also appointed South-Hithadhoo MP Ali Nizar as the party’s Chief Whip.
They were appointed without a vote since no one else had vied for the positions.
The seats became empty after previous MDP Parliamentary Group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took his oath as President and previous chief whip Mariya Ahmed Didi was appointed as Minister of Defence.
After lawmakers accepted positions in the new government, MDP’s Parliamentary Group currently consists of 18 MPs.
