Maldives Police Service (MPS) has seized a large number of narcotics that were shipped to Naifaru island in Lhaviyani atoll.

According to the MPS, they had begun the operation upon an intelligence report received that some individuals were attempting to smuggle drugs on a vessel en route to Naifaru from capital city Male’.

Officers had searched the vessel that docked at the island’s harbor on Monday night and seized a box which contained two large rubber packets of what was suspected to be narcotic substances.

MPS is yet to make any arrests regarding this discovery.

Police revealed that officers stationed in the island are currently investigating the case.
