Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has stated that the constitutional case regarding the presidential election was filed at the Supreme Court after they received complaints from numerous parties.

In a press statement on Wednesday, the ruling party stated that it has even received complaints from observers and monitors at the election on September 23.

These complaints have led PPM to believe that the rights of its candidate and running mate have been violated, therefore the party stated that these issues should be addressed at the relevant institutions.

PPM stated that it received complaints regarding issues in the printing of ballot papers, fraud committed during the voting process, the use of prohibited items to increase votes, flaws in the re-registration list, and the behavior of officials at the polling stations.

In the press statement, PPM also stated that it was the party’s responsibility to protect the rights of the more than 96,000 people who had voted for its candidate.

President Yameen and the ruling party officially accepted the election results immediately after opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s win. However, the President later began accusing the Elections Commission of rigging the election and his supporters have since been holding protests outside the ruling party’s office.
