President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the coming days 'will not be easy' and that the Joint Opposition needs to work together during this transitional period.

Speaking at the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s national congress on Tuesday, Solih emphasized that they had faced many obstacles prior to the election.

Solih commended the opposition coalition parties and its leaders for their tireless work throughout, and that this was proven in their campaign trips to the outlying islands.

He noted that most of the islanders were in dire need of justice to be served, and to bring an end to the corruption and theft carried out by the current administration.

Highlighting this, Solih pledged to put in his best efforts to serve justice to the nation in the coming days.

“Upcoming are not easy days. There is a lot to do. We humbly request all citizens to stick together during this transition. Our part in keeping up with the pledges made is very important” said Solih.

President-elect Solih stated that they have comprised a committee to begin work to change the government and that during the coming days, he expects to receive immense support from the public. Solih also highlighted the immense support being received from foreign bodies and institutions.

Solih had also expressed his gratitude to everyone who played a role in the momentous win in Sunday’s election.
