Joint Opposition's presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to make southern Fuvahmulah City the country's information and communications technology (ICT) 'hub'.

With just a few days left for election day, Solih made the pledge during a campaign rally in the city on Wednesday night where he made a number of pledges to Fuvahmulah including laying tar on all main roads and finding solutions to the problems associated with coastal erosion.

Noting that the city has produced great intellectuals, Solih further said that upon establishing an ICT department at the Maldives National University (MNU) 'Fuvahmulah City will house its main center'.

He also pledged to develop an 'open museum' in city.

While his opponent in the election, incumbent President Abdulla Yameen recently stated that his 'true self' will be seen after September 23, Solih said that he has been showing his true self for the past 25 years and that he 'will not touch a single cent of the people's money'.

He also spoke on reports of attempts to influence the vote, saying that it cannot be bought and that 'there is no institution that can change the people's verdict'.
