The Elections Commission of the Maldives has revealed that the delivery of ballot papers to outlying atolls will be completed on Wednesday.

Commission member and spokesperson Ahmed Akram revealed that they had begun sending ballot papers to outlying atolls on Monday and that some important documents relating to election day are being sent in security boxes.

Police officers and officials at the EC are active in delivering the security boxes to islands, Akram said.

The spokesperson added that the delivery of ballot papers to the atolls will be completed on Thursday.

“Ballot papers will be delivered to atolls today and the atoll councils will be delivering them to islands on Thursday” said Akram.

However, Akram had confirmed that ballot papers are yet to be sent to countries in which polling stations are to be established for the Presidential Election, slated for upcoming Sunday.

This year’s election comprises of 262,135 eligible voters and the commission is to place 472 ballot boxes across the nation.
