MDP called for our resignation when we asked they meet Laxton Group: EC chief
The EC chief said that the commission condemns the misleading information being spread regarding them
He said that they would never rely on a foreign firm to get advice and resources for the election
He added that they want to make the election as transparent as possible and for that they need the support of citizens and parties

Elections Commission (EC) President Ahmed Shareef has said that when they asked all political parties to meet with Laxton Group to hold discussions, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) called for the resignation of commission members.

Speaking at the ceremony to assign numbers to the presidential candidate on Saturday, the EC chief said that the commission condemns the misleading information being spread regarding them and will take action against those responsible.

Shareef said that lies are also being circulated in the media regarding the Chinese company based in South Africa. He said that they would never rely on a foreign firm to get advice and resources for the election and if they wished to, they would discuss it with political parties and the advisory committee beforehand.

He added that they want to make the election as transparent as possible and for that they need the support of citizens and parties.
