Member of Parliament for Nolhivaram constituency, Hussain Areef has said that the root of the freedom of Maldivian citizens is the freedom of press and media.
Speaking to RaajjeTV from Nolhivaram island during opposition Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s trip to some of the southern islands, Areef said that the government needs to bring an end to its obstructions to media and press.
According to Areef, freedom of press is the root of freedom for the citizens. As such, the MP called to immediately bring an end to the obstructions aimed at privately-run television station RaajjeTV and other independent media.
“I want to add that neither RaajjeTV’s management, nor it’s resilient staff can be intimidated, their hearts are filled with unconditional love for the nation” said Areef.
Areef also went on to express his gratitude to the station for bringing the happenings around the nation into the spotlight as it is.
Moreover, Areef highlighted that citizens need to join hands today in order to save the country from the pit it has fallen into, expressing his certainty that citizens will come out in the nation’s defense.
The MP said that the eyes of citizens are wide open and that they can clearly perceive the corruption and tyranny of the government, and that the government needs to take a step back and listen to it’s citizens.
