Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) and local banks are to continue services on the 22nd of August, a Wednesday, after halting services for Eid-Al-Adha holidays which will proceed for a week’s duration in the Maldives.

According to the authority, if the government declares the 19th of August as a holiday for Eid-Al-Adha, the authority and institutions run under them, as well as banks will continue their services on 22nd of August onward.

Times during which services will be provided in MMA on the 22nd of August:

  • Accepting and issuing cash: 08:30 a.m. to 02:00 p.m.
  • Accepting and issuing coins: 08:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Accepting documents such as letters: 08:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

According to the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid-Al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Zul-Hijjah and is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated each year. While the 01st of Zul-Hijjah falls on the 12th of August, President Yameen had earlier declared that the 19th of August, a Sunday, will be a public holiday, making the whole week a public holiday.
