Maldives Joint Opposition’s Presidential candidate, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he will not touch a single coin of the state funds.
Speaking to residents of Kinbidhoo island throughout the opposition’s two-day campaign tour of Thaa atoll, Solih said that while he is vying for presidency as a candidate of the allied opposition, what he must pay the most attention to is to ensure that the philosophies of the four parties which comprise the Joint Opposition is brought together, based on which decisions will be reached.
Solih ensured the citizens that the opposition will not touch a single coin of the state funds in their reform work.
“I ensure you that we will not touch a single coin of the state funds” assured Solih.
Solih stated that he believes it is his duty to ensure the reform efforts by a unity government led by the opposition coalition matches the variety of mindsets and intellects that make up the country.
“My responsibility is substantial. As it is known, we are from an allied coalition. I stand in front of all citizens today representing them. In my point of view, my most significant responsibility would be to bring all the ideologies of the four parties together and make cooperative decisions, together, as a joint coalition. With the grace of God, I will make sure this is done reliably” said Solih.
Moreover, Solih expressed his concern over the unlawful incarceration of the parliamentarian representing Kinbidhoo constituency, Abdulla Riyaz.
“It has been over 150 days since Riyaz’s undeserved imprisonment. He did not commit a crime. Yet, Riyaz is being kept in incarceration under a separate charge from the one that a trial is currently being carried out for. This is the form in which justice is in currently in the country. We as a joint opposition have stepped up to bring justice to these misconducts. I would also like to highlight that Riyaz has been a brave frontrunner in our reform efforts” said Solih.
Several citizens of the island had gathered by the harbor to welcome the opposition Presidential candidate on Monday. It is noteworthy that this was one of the islands which showed immense support to the opposition candidate, from a great majority of citizens. Solih is currently in Thimarafushi island of the same atoll where he opened the women’s campaign site and Joint Opposition Party’s office on Monday evening.
