Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s main office in capital Malé City was attacked on Tuesday night.
While an object was thrown to break its glass door, police officers arrived at the scene shortly after.
A police forensic team was active at the scene following Tuesday night's attack.
The MDP office has been the target of many such attacks, including arson. However, police investigations have yet to conclude and there have been no arrests over these attacks.
In a tweet posted afterwards, MDP's general secretary Anas Abdul Sattar noted that there was only one other CCTV camera that could have caught the incident- at the Ministry of Health.
However, he claimed that an officer had "implied that the government would not provide the footage".
One of the officers came up to me & advised me;

1. that the only security camera in line of sight (other than ours) was the one at the Health Ministry, but he implied that the govt wouldn’t provide the footage. https://t.co/UGs0hVoqbN
While the camera outside the MDP office had some relevant footage, MDP is to hand the 'evidence' over to the police for their investigation. Noting this, Sattar tweeted that the officer had advised him to "make a copy before handing it over" as the authorities cannot be trusted.
2. that he doesn’t know what will happen to the footage (which is EVIDENCE) once we hand it over to the Police, therefore he advises to make a copy of the footage before handing it over to the Police.

MDP's ally, Adhaalath Party expressed concern over the attack, highlighting that such attacks targeting the opposition are increasing, adding that this 'is a serious obstacle to a fee and fair election'.
@AdhaalathOffice is deeply concerned by the news of criminal damage and vandalism of @MDPSecretariat.

Increasing occurences of such incidents targetted at the United Opposition Parties is a serious obstacle to a free and fair election. @ElectionsMv @PoliceMv
While MDP's main office was vandalized on Tuesday, its presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was targeted twice during a campaign event in Hulhumalé last week; he was not injured.
