A woman has been arrested over allegations of physically abusing her five-year-old child.

A police spokesperson confirmed the matter to RaajjeMV, saying that a 27-year-old woman was arrested over allegations of child abuse, adding that the Criminal Court has since issued her a 10-day remand.

RaajjeMV understands that the child had to be admitted to hospital for treatment, following the injuries sustained due the abuse.

Ministry of Gender and Family has since launched an investigation into the matter, and the child is now under the ministry’s care.
