A hearing has been held in connection with the murder of a migrant worker on a fishing boat.

Mohamed Masood, a Bangladeshi man faces charges under accusations of murdering another Bangladeshi national, Mohamed Shaheen on a fishing boat.

He has been charged under Section 5 (a) of the Prevention of Intimidation, Possession of Dangerous Weapons and Sharp Objects Act and has been charged with deliberate murder under sections (c) and (d).

The hearing focused around deciding on the evidence protection order.

These include making the statements given by secret witnesses to investigators anonymous, taking secret witnesses' testimonies without knowing their identities, and issuing scene-of-crime reports after removing photographs of the deceased.

The defendant in the case sought more time to respond to the charges pinned against him, at the hearing.

The judge granted him more time to respond to the charge sheet.

The next hearing will focus on the defendant’s respond to the charges.

According to the judge, the next hearing will be held in late August.

Judge Dheebanaz Fahmy presided over the case earlier.

However, following her transfer to the High Court, the case is being presided over by Criminal Court Judge Ibrahim Ihusan.
