There is no way a free and fair election can be held in the Maldives: MP Rozaina
Rozaina commended first lady's efforts in the ruling party campaign
Although opposition does not have adequate funds, campaign activities are proceeding

Member of Parliament for Addu-Meedhoo constituency Rozaina Adam has said that she does not believe the Presidential Elections slated for September will be that of a free and fair one, adding that the opposition's campaign activities are proceeding full steam ahead in all the ways possible to them.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s “Fala Surkhee” program on Wednesday night, Rozaina said that although the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is not being given the equal opportunity to campaign, the opposition will proceed with their campaign activities in resilience.

Rozaina said that they are now seeing the ruling party conducting a silent campaign since there are no volunteers to run campaign activities. A price is needed even to hoist a flag. Nothing can be done without money. Rozaina added that however, MDP activities are proceeding in a different manner, going on to say that although the opposition does not have adequate funds, they have the full backing of generous citizens.

The MP said that citizens who belong to MDP are ones who do not need funding to hoist the party flag, and spend from their own wallets for campaign activities.

While she noted that PPM is the complete opposite, it is seen that the ruling party conducts its campaign through the parliament.

The MP further applauded the first lady, Fathmath Ibrahim for her tireless efforts in the campaign.

“I commend the physical effort she is putting into the campaign while her husband sits home. The way things are being carried out is not respectable. However, she is very diligent in her work” said Rozaina.
