Entry fee allocated for Maldives' first winter park

A fee has been allocated for individuals who wish to enter the winter theme park built in place of a historical mosque at Rasrani Bageechaa.

The park developed in a winter theme, which was initially inaugurated by the first couple on Eid-Al-Fitr, was officially opened to the general public on Wednesday.

While the fee of the park is set at MVR 20 per entry, am additional fee will also be taken if individuals wish to partake in the park activities.

The winter park hosts three activities which are snow sliding, ice skating as well as a snow house which costs MVR 100 altogether.

The winter park will be open on Sundays from 04:00 p.m. to 06:00 p.m. and 08:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. every Sunday. It will be open from 09:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m. and 08:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday.

The park will be open on Fridays from 06:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. between 04:00 p.m. and 06:00 p.m. and 08:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

The park will also be open on Saturdays from 06:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m. and 08:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Moreover, the park will also be open on public holidays from 06:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m. and 08:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. The ticket counter closes 30 minutes prior to closing time.

The winter park has also been decided to lease for events and ceremonies with the occupancy for 70 individuals, as such, the park will be leased at a cost of MVR 10,000 per hour.

The park developed at Rasrani Bageechaa which stands in place of the Sultan Park, used by Sultan Shamsuddeen II, was built in place of the Kalhu Vakaru Miskiy, which was built in the 1700s by Shamsuddeen.

The dismantling of the 16th century mosque was met with criticism and backlash for apparent disregard for local culture and history, aimed at President Yameen and his government, notably Housing Minister Mohamed Muizzu.
