The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the disciplinary center developed on the former scrapyard area of capital city Male’ has been changed into a prison.

According to an announcement made by the ministry, the disciplinary center has been declared as a prison under the Prisons and Parole Act.

The ministry stated that the facility is being operated by the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS).

MCS said that detainees at the facility do various community services, and that currently prisoners detained in the facility are doing community service for the road development of the capital city Male’. MCS added that the prisoners working in road development are well-behaved and their work is being supervised by the MCS.
