First Couple to exchange Eid-ul-Fitr greetings with the public at Rasrani Bageecha

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated to mark the end of Ramadan

President Abdulla Yameen and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim are to exchange Eid-ul-Fitr greetings with the public at Rasrani Bageecha this year.

According to the President's Office, they will begin exchanging greetings with the public at 9am on the morning of Eid-ul-Fitr, and will continue to do so until 10am.

The Office said that the invitation "is open to all Maldivians of all ages, as well as members of foreign diplomatic missions, international organizations and members of non-governmental organizations".

According to the local calendar, Eid-ul-Fitr is to begin on Thursday evening, hence the first couple will be exchanging Eid greetings on Friday morning.

Ramadan, which began on May 16, is observed by Muslims as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran. It is one of the five pillars of Islam. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated to mark the end of Ramadan.
