Maldives winning UNSC seat would have led to vote rigging at council: Ex-Auditor General
This administration is not one that can be trusted - Niyaz
Maldives had garned 46 votes out of the 193 member states in the vote held on Friday
Indonesia won the seat for a fourth term by garnering 144 votes

Former Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim has said that if the Maldives had won the United Nations (UN) Security Council seat for the Asia Pacific region, there will be a great deal of vote rigging inside the council.

Niyaz said this on Twitter on Saturday after Maldives lost to Indonesia in the UN Security Council vote held the day before.

Niyaz said Maldives authorities wanted to get into the Security Council in order to rig votes, adding that this administration is not one that can be trusted.

On Friday, the UN held it’s 93rd plenary meeting to elect five non-permanent members to the security council in which Maldives had garned 46 votes out of the 193 member states with Indonesia winning the seat by garnering 144 votes.
