Infant dies in Ungoofaaru, was found wedged between mattress and headboard of bed

A three-month-old infant died in Raa atoll Ungoofaaru island on Monday.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, island council chief Abdul Nasir Ali reported that the infant died about 20 minutes after being put to sleep and that the three-month-old was found wedged in between the mattress and the headboard.
According to the mother of the child, the child had died after turning over and getting wedged in the narrow space between the mattress and headboard.
"The mother said she had stepped outside after putting the child to sleep. It had not even been 20 minutes. The infant was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital" said the council chief.
The infant has since been buried.
