Hearings in charges raised against Member of Parliaments for South-Galolhu constituency Ahmed Mahloof and South-Mahchangoalhi constituency Abdulla Sinan have been scheduled at the Criminal Court for Sunday.
Sinan's terror trial has been scheduled at 12pm on Sunday while a hearing in Mahloof's trial has been scheduled for 11am.
MP Sinan is being charged for his alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow the government by conspiring within the parliament since 2017 alongside accepting bribes and carrying out acts that are a threat to national security.
The parliamentarian is also accused of working with former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef to create public unrest by pitting officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) against each other.
Sinan has been detained under the State of Emergency since the 09th of February after he had turned himself over to police following a manhunt launched for him. The parliamentarian was informed of his allegations 35 days since incarceration.
Sinan faces a jail term of up to 17 to 20 years in incarceration if he is proven guilty for the allegations raised against him in court.
Mahloof is being charged for providing false information to a law enforcement body.
Said charges had been raised against the parliamentarian for a tweet he had posted about medical negligence in jails and accusing relevant authorities of murdering inmates.
Mahloof has since repeated his accusation following the dead of the 13th inmate within two years.
13th inmate dies in 2 years, the highest per capita of custodial deaths in the world. Yet in a few days Criminal Court will be sentencing me to jail regarding a tweet about medical negligence in jails. I repeat those accusations again, as it’s more evident now. https://t.co/E3sniJSJNh
