The Link Road being contructed from Hulhule island linking the bridge between Male' and Hulhumale' is ready to be tarred.
Housing Developement Corporation (HDC) said that the construction work of the Link Road is proceeding at a swift speed. As such, a breakwater is currently being built to guard the reclaimed area and the final works before tarring the road, are underway. HDC further said that the pavement on the side of the Link Road has been completed.
Authorities had handed over the construction and development of the Link Road to Hunan Engineerings for USD 24 million (MVR 370 million).
The minister of Housing and Ifrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had earlier announced the commencement of the construction of the road linking capital city Male' to the bridge.
Under the construction, the south-eastern side of outlying Boduthakurufaan Magu will be expanded by 16 meters, and will fit four lanes with two-meter pavements on either side.
Following the road expansion project, over 300 trees have been cut down in the capital city, including decade-old ones near the Artificial Beach area, of which, the staging area has been removed as well, with many chiding the government's hasty decision to cut down the trees, Minister Muizzu defended the decision, saying that fresh trees will be planted upon the conclusion of the project.
