Maldives Police Service has ordered RaajjeTV to seize broadcasting content regarding former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Three police officers in plainclothes arrived at the station at around 3pm on Wednesday, and ordered RaajjeTV to stop broadcasting content relating to the former president.

The officers said that the order was made under the Prisons and Parole Act, but failed to clarify the matter.

There are no clauses relating to broadcasters in the Prisons and Parole Act.

While the officers, who did not have a court order, said that this was a warning.

Prior to their arrival, the Vice President of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission sent a letter to RaajjeTV’s COO, ordering him to stop RaajjeTV’s live coverage.
