Family of former Islamic Minister Dr. Abdul Majeed Abdul Bari has said that he has been placed in a medically induced coma, after suffering a stroke.

He has been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a hospital in Sri Lanka since Friday, following a sudden health deterioration during a trip there. His family has since flown to Colombo to be with him.

RaajjeMV understands that the senior Adhaalath Party official has undergone three surgeries since being admitted there.

While he was taken to the hospital after having been found on the floor of the room he was staying in Colombo, doctors are to have said that he had suffered a stroke.

Reports indicate that doctors were forced to place him in a medically induced coma due to a nerve issue in the brain that had caused internal bleeding.

Noting that he was placed in the coma for treatment, a family member told RaajjeMV that doctors 'have now given permission to feed him'.
