Supreme Court Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed have been sentenced by to a period of one year, seven months and six days in prison for influencing the conduct of a public official.
This is the second consecutive jail term passed against Chief Justice Saeed. On Tuesday, the Criminal Court sentenced Justice Saeed to four months and 24 days in prison for interference with government functions.
Whereas Saeed had denied the charges levied against him and denounced them as biased, both justices also face terrorism charges for allegedly scheming a coup against the current administration.
The sentencing hearing was initially scheduled for Wednesday at 04:00pm following which it was rescheduled thrice from 07:00pm to 08:00pm and then at 09:30pm after Justice Hameed, who has a heart condition, was rushed to a hospital and admitted.
