MP Fahmy slams government for deceiving citizens regarding flats
MP Fahmy said that the government does not intend to provide shelter for it's citizens but to hoodwink them instead

North-Maafannu constituency member of parliament and opposition Maldivian Democratic Party's spokesperson Imthiyaz Fahmy has slammed the current administration, claiming that it is not trying to provide shelter for the needful, but instead to hoodwink the people.

Speaking in a press conference held by the joint opposition parties at Kunooz in Maafannu ward of capital city Male' on Sunday, MP Fahmy said that the government does not intend to provide shelter for it's citizens but to hoodwink them instead.

MP Fahmy added that while distribution of forms for the 7000 flats under the state's shelter program have begun on Sunday, said flats are yet to be constructed, claiming that there are no flats built by the current administration.

"Work for the construction of foundations for said flats is yet to begin, they are distributing forms for flats of which the construction work hasn't even started yet" said Fahmy.

He said that up till date, there are no perceivable flats built by the current administration and that the ones that have been built were using the finances under the construction programs initiated by the opposition MDP's administration.

While Fahmy accused the government of influencing the distribution of the flats built by the MDP government unfairly, he also added that the flats built on the land on which Arabiyya school was previously located were built to provide shelter for the needful, and that President Yameen's administration had granted them to the rich and powerful instead.

Aiming his criticism towards the government, Fahmy had claimed that the government's intentions were almost entirely based on cunning traits.

"Maldivians must be alert, the current government's intentions are not ones favourable to it's citizens. The government represents only corruption, and theft," said Fahmy.

Fahmy has slammed the government at a time when it has come under fire for the failure in maintaining proper procedures in handling the crowd gathered at Dharubaaruge to acquire forms distributed to apply for the 7000 flats under the state's shelter program.
