President Abdulla Yameen’s administration is inflicting numerous unseen harm to the education system, says Addu-Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam.

The MP said this at an opposition rally at Jumhoree Party’s campaign office on Thursday night.

At the rally, MP Rozaina said that while senior ruling party PPM members claim that the current administration brings progress “that can be seen”, there are plenty of unseen harm done to the citizens.

Rozaina said Maldivians take their children’s education seriously, even those who do not pay attention to President Yameen and his administration’s corruption.

She said that people need to talk about the problems in the education system and that while competition is a key part of education, the current system has nothing to challenge students. She said that revoking testing for grade eight students would mean they will move on without any confirmation of their educational level, the consequences of which will be seen two years later when they do their O levels.

She approved giving the Top Achiever’s Award to students who achieve "A" stars in all subjects but said that the change was only made because President Yameen did not want to stay at the award show for too long.

She added that parents have expressed worry that this year’s Top Achiever’s Award is only being award to first, second, and third place winners.
